I could never read anything as lame as Twilight, but the hunger games are amazing, I continuously expected Peeta to die in the first book, I never really liked that character and neither did Katniss but he slowly grew on us.
However he could have been died at any time and the story would have continued unhinged without him, because the story was really about Katniss and her relation to the evil government.
The same thing goes for Buffy, the chosen one survived Angel, and went on with her life and her duties, the love was there but it was never the whole story and not even the focus.
Buffy and Katniss were both cool strong kickass female protagonist but in between them Twilight came along and not only destroyed everything that was once cool about vampires but also reduces women to the pre 60's submissive state of passivity and helplessness.
